Use a 3 fold stand alone display board found at most office supply stores. Try ones with colored backgrounds! Get these ahead of time as during science fair season they can be hard to find. Here is an example of a pretty cool and affordable science fair display board.

The Experiment Title should be placed on the top of the center fold, large lettering 3-4 inches high. Normally it is one color, but depending on the project , two topic related colors sometimes work.

When writing Procedures, remember you are telling someone else how to do the project. So you list the step by step sequence you followed. Do not include two steps in one number. More short simple points are easier to read than long involved ones.

Data and Results are generally displayed by with a graph and/or a chart. A summary paragraph is also generally expected. Photos will be included if you can’t bring the actual finished product to the science fair.

Conclusion would be a longer paragraph but is not always required. It depends on the type of project and in many cases how old you are.

I was looking through these cool one day science fair projects materials for parents and teachers to use to give their kids for science fair, and I wondered what I would have chosen as the best science projects for my kids if I had been lucky enough and these were available way back then.

I have a son and a daughter and as any parent knows, they can be as different as night and day. The gene pool does weird things to parents, don’ they?

The best science projects for my daughter would have been…

She was the organized one and liked things to be set, have a clear goal and a set procedure to follow and would stay true.

She would have been able to sustain attention over time, and we would probably have not been in the situation where we needed quick and easy science fair projects that could be finished in one day.

Her report would have been finished on time but she would have needed help jazzing up the display board, so cool graphs and charts would have come in handy.

She would have begged us to practice her presentation and proudly show us her project every step of the way.

As a teacher who also was a parent, one of my big things was that I wanted my own kids to do their homework themselves. I had an advantage on one hand of knowing the difference between guiding, helping and suggestions and doing it for them. There were times my kids were not so happy with this plan, and there were times, at the last minute I had to step in and help more than I wanted to.
What I like about these one day science fair projects is that the way it is all set up, the kids can pretty much do it on their own. The parent can watch and be excited about it, but the temptations to jump in and do it for them won’t be there. Sometimes it will be hard as these are fun, and parents will want to put their kid hat back on and do it too! Which they can… after the child does it the first time!

Your demonstration would be with the one that worked fastest and the balloon grew the biggest, because that would be the most interesting.

Show how a chicken egg is a cell with a selectively permeable membrane.

Soak a raw egg in vinegar for a weekend. The shell will come off. Then put the egg into dark syrup and watch what happens!

It is a great example of how a project that is very simple to do, demonstrates a more complex concept.

The preparation would take place ahead of time, but the point is to demonstrate what that happens when you put the egg in the dark liquid.
