Easy Science Fair Projects – How to Find Good Ones Quickly!

You can do it!  There are last minute, easy science fair project to be found that are good enough for the science teachers…

science project 300x225 Easy Science Fair Projects There you are on a Friday night, looking forward to a relaxing weekend with your family and it hits you…. there is a science project due on Monday, that you knew about of course and just kept putting it off… you thought you still had another week!  Where did the time go?  You have not even once started looking for an idea.  What you  need  are easy science fair projects that can be done quickly, but one that will also meet the teacher’s requirements.  It need to be a good one.

Most of the time when you find a science project that is  easy, it does not even come close to meeting the requirements the teacher set out in the project outline that came home weeks ago.  In addition a quick and easy  project might not be enough time to teach your child anything significant about science!  Believe it or not, there really are some  good science fair projects that can be done quickly, easily and teach your child something along the way.

Here is what you need to do to find the best easy science fair projects—– Starting Friday night…

  • Check the directions and see exactly what type of project your child needs.  Is it a demonstration science project where they present to the class?  Is it a science report?  Do they need to make a scientific model or gather a collection of items? Or,  is it the more common option of an experiment of some sort based on the scientific method?  When looking online make sure you pick the right type.
  • Get your child involved and ask them for several ideas. It gets them involved in the early stages for their own project!
  • Start your internet or library search using the phrase  “science projects on…”   Add in elementary, or middle school or the  grade level to narrow it down further.  You can easily find just the right projects this way.   Look through and make a list of possibilities.   Discard anything that looks too advanced or complicated.
  • Look at the materials list for the ingredients and equipment that is needed to do the project.  Eliminate any projects with ingredients not readily available or way too expensive.  There are  tons of projects that use regular household products or that can be found with a quick trip to the local store.
  • Check out  the timing for how long the project will  take.  You only have a weekend, so you want two days or less. You need to leave time for writing reports and making display boards.  Your best easy science fair projects should not take more than a couple of hours, half a day.  Remember you need time left over in case of a mess up and you have a do-over, which trust me, will happen.

Human behavior science projects can be fun to do.  It can be a popular choice for kids to explore for their science fair.  It goes a different direction than just doing a science experiment where you test how long  it takes ice to melt,  what kind of  paper towel is strongest or how the sun really affects plant growth.

The tricky part is getting enough test subjects, but it can be a fun way to meet lots of people and practice your “explaining” skills and just have some fun.  There are lots of simple behavioral projects that would be perfect for kids to explore, that once you get the kind of thing we are talking about, your biggest problem might be choosing which one to do! This can be done so simply.  Show a phone number to  half the people and  tell a phone number to the other half, and see which one has a better memorizing rate.

Watch a group of people before and after their group leader yawns.  You might have to video, to get an accurate count!

  • Is it faster to memorize a  poem  with music?

Set  the words to a simple, yet unfamiliar poem to  music or  and on other similar to music. Which one had a better memorizing rate.

  • Are younger children more inclined to like their teachers than older students?

Rate the popularity of teachers that teach different ages of kids.

  • Are two ears or one  better at localizing a sound?

Hide an object, and time how long individuals take to find it.

The teacher who assigns it wants education to be at the top of the list.

Kids of course think it should be fun to do

Parents want quick, fun and easy science fair projects . Bottom line, is the ideal project will satisfy all of them

Here are some tips to help you find a fun and easy science fair project that the teachers will also love.

  • If the teacher has not sent home a list to choose from, or a general theme to use, then you need to use the child’s interest as your guide. When you choose a topic they already like, you will perk their interest. Sometimes it can be a stepping stone, and when looking in one area, you get ideas for a new direction. If you child loved dogs, you could be looking a pet related topics and before you know it get into looking at what kills fleas the best.
  • As a parent it is important to double check which kind of project the teacher assigned. this would be a horrible blunder to do a cool project that gets rejected because it is the wrong type. Know what kind of science project is required. Make sure you know which of the five types was assigned. Most science fairs require an experiment, which has an hypothesis, tests the hypothesis following the scientific method, and arrives at a conclusion, so it is easy to just assume that is the kind of project you are looking for. But it could be a demonstration of a science principle, a report on a subject in science, a collection of items, or may-be building a scientific model.
  • Look at the materials list of any potential project and do a quick budget check. If your funds do not include buying special chemicals and/or equipment, then look for ones that use materials easily found in your home. Be sure to have a spare supply of printer ink and paper on hand! You don’t want it to be 11:00 the night before the project is due, and run out of printer ink.
  • Do not forget to budget for time. If the science fair is a week away and you have not started, you need to search for a quick and easy science fair project that can be done that does not need three weeks to watch mold grow or seeds sprout. Be sure if paint or paper mache is involved you budget for drying time. One thing that people forget to budget time for is making the display board, writing the report and playing with spreadsheets.
  • The teacher will be happy if you use many resources, both for finding fun and easy science fair projects and for supporting facts and research. Use both the library and the internet. Libraries are known for large sections just on ideas for the science fair projects. Look for pictures that can be used in the display. Supporting research is an important piece that becomes more important as the kids get older.
